All Saints has a group of dedicated Christian Aid collectors who year after year trudge round the streets, delivering and collecting envelopes, come sun, wind or downpours of rain. We are committed to improving the circumstances of some of the poorest people in the Third World. The topic this year was refugees to celebrate the Diamond anniversary of Christian Aid and remembering the mammoth task of helping European refugees after the Second World War.  The appeal focused on the refugees at present in refugee camps in Greece and told the story of a family from Afghanistan who had “adopted” two orphaned brothers who had also escaped the bombing and slaughter.

Our efforts were not in vain. Many kind and generous people responded to our door knocking. Many people also took the time to fill in the Gift Aid slips and this brought our total to £2,937.20.

It takes courage to knock on doors. Our oldest collectors were in their eighties and nineties and the walking was often hard work for them. For those of us who have been doing it for several years, it is a joy to meet these kind people each year and to realise that some have saved money throughout the year to fill their envelopes (or carrier bags in some cases)!

My deepest gratitude to all concerned.

Rosemary Sumner, C.A. Organiser for Bromsgrove.
